Undergraduate Summer Research Scholarships
Goal
The CIRGET and LaCIM undergraduate research awards aim to stimulate students' interest in research by allowing them to gain experience working in a university research lab. They also aim to encourage students to undertake graduate studies.
Eligibility
To be eligible for these awards, students must be registered (at the time of application) full-time in a bachelor's degree programme in the natural sciences or engineering and have obtained a cumulative average of at least B over the previous years of study. During the tenure of the award, students must have no more than four trimesters to complete before receiving a Bachelor's degree, must not have started a graduate studies programme, and must be engaged on a full-time basis in research and development activities. A member professor of CIRGET or LaCIM must agree to be the student's supervisor during the tenure of the award.
Duration of the award
Four months
Value
$4,500 paid in two installments (one half paid by CIRGET or LaCIM and the other half paid by the supervisor responsible for the research training).
Application
Interested students may submit their application in two ways:
1. By submitting a copy of their NSERC Undergraduate Research Scholarship application to the LaCIM.
2. By submitting the following documents to the LaCIM:
- The completed form "Demande de bourse de recherche (1er cycle)".
- A research project written with the professor responsible for the research training (maximum 1 page).
- A letter of intent addressed directly to CIRGET or LaCIM and submitted to Johanne Patoine (LaCIM office, PK-4211).
- An official transcript.
Selection of awards
Candidates will be evaluated by the CIRGET and the LaCIM according to their application materials and their aptitude for research, keeping in mind the objectives of the programme.

Summer Scholarships for CEGEP students
Since 2002, the LaCIM and CIRGET have welcomed CEGEP students from greater Montreal through a project set up by the UQAM Faculty of Science. This project aims to initiate several students to working in a scientific setting. These paid inernships are for a period of four to eight weeks.
